Our online Structured Therapeutic Activities for Rehabilitation (STAR) Programme highlights healthy and positive ways for people to build friendships and find ways forward on their recovery journeys. Best of all its FREE and can be accessed easily from anywhere.
Art Classes
The online Art Group meets on Thursday afternoons every week and is run by our Art Teacher Chrissie. The group is encouraged to interpret things in their own way and to let that creativity shine. "I love art it stretches the imagination, creating something and bringing it to life, it’s my number one pastime” “The Silverlining Art Group provides a wonderful opportunity to express myself creatively and explore the world of communication through art. A massive thank you for giving me this opportunity and helping me find new methods of coping with brain injury.”
Music Therapy Group
The Music Therapy group meets every Wednesday and is led by Emily Grimes our music therapist. The group both write songs and performs the music the write. “The music Therapy class provides an opportunity to get together with lots of amazing people and sing our hearts out. We’ve created five empowering songs which challenge the misconceptions of brain injury.” “Music transcends the challenges of brain injury and cognitive decline. Music brings us together as a family. Music makes me feel alive and producing such powerful songs helps me offload my emotions and frustration”
Short Stories Book Club
The story stories book club encourages Silverliners would enjoy reading to come together to enjoy books and share their feelings and ideas.
Craft Group
The craft group is a creative space weekly on a Monday where members can enjoy and share their creative projects and passions. “I love the Chatty Crafters group and all the people in the group. The friendship, crafting and nattering that happens in the group is always really special and means a lot to me."
Yoga and Mindfulness Group
Seated Yoga and Mindfulness Group is held twice weekly and run by Anna. The group focuses on healthy stretching and breathing to induce a sense of wellbeing and calm. “I find it beautiful and as soon as we start, I feel a wave of calm go right through me."
Film Club
The Film Club is organized by our Midland Coordinators Steve and Sue Rogers every Thursday evening. The group encourages our film buff Silverliners to watch a weekly film picked by a Silverliner and then to discuss the film within the group. Since the group began, they have reviewed over 224 films! “I love the film club on a Thursday night. Mostly that is because seeing everyone’s smiling faces, the banter and the fun! “We see films we wouldn’t have chosen for ourselves, listen to everyone’s opinions and discuss anything good that we have seen that week. It is relaxed, friendly and a joy” “The film club for Sara who is severely disabled is a fantastic easily accessible activity which she can enjoy like everyone else and from the comfort of our home! We have made great friends and have enjoyed eventually meeting most, in person, at other events!”
Creative Writing Group
The Creative Writing Group meets twice per month and is led by Sally Tissington. The group explores telling your story and increasing awareness of brain injury. The creative writing group has now written two books to help children with brain injury.
Photography Group
The Photography Group meets online on the first Monday of every month. The Group is run by David Hindley working photographer in the music and entertainment industry. David gives assignments of pictures to take between meetings, and these are shared on the photography what’s app group. “I always look forward to the photography group sessions. With Davids help I focus on and enjoy the world around me more each day.” “I have met new people whose resilience friendship and help makes me feel truly supported” "There are such a variety of photos that come in through the WhatsApp, brightening up any day. Coffee Morning
The coffee morning is run weekly by our own Laween and Haley and gives a wonderful chance to meet up with friends and share the ups and downs of life over a cup of coffee! “Everyone is so supportive of each other, and I feel I’ve made lots of good friends” “We can show things and share special moments, and it really helps to feel like a valued part of the community.
Drama Group
The Drama Group meets twice per month and is led by Sara. The group is a fun way to act out scenarios and stretch your range and have fun with friends. "The Drama group helps me to step out of my day-to-day worries and just enjoy the moment”
Prayer Group
The prayer group is a place where Silverliners can come together to discuss their spirituality and how it is supporting their recovery.
Quiz Nights
Quiz nights happen monthly and give people a chance to show off their knowledge or learn something new. It's also a great space for Silverliners to bring their family or support works along to join in the fun.
Family Support Group
The family support group is run monthly and aims to create a space for family members and friends to come and share their experiences and offer support to others.
Seated Exercise Group
The seated Exercise Group is a great way to get moving at a pace that is just right for you in the comfort of your own home.
Regional meetings
All our regional hubs run both online, hybrid opportunities to join in person meetings virtually. Meeting hubs provide opportunities for Silverliners to socialize and plan activities in the community.
Healthy Relationships Group
The Healthy Relationship Group is run by neuropsychologist Dr. Sherrie Baehr and focuses on self-care, positive identity and developing healthy relationships with others. “Sharing my experiences with others on the same recovery journey means everything and helps me to feel understood"
Football Club
The football club is a favourite with our football fans. No matter what team you support, share your love of football every Monday night! Our fabulous volunteers Andy and Justin have been bringing joy to Monday nights since 2020. As avid football fans themselves, they inspire Silverliners to support their team and get involved. “I love the football club: it’s something that I look forward to on Monday night.
