Music Programme
Music transforms recovery into possibility - helping survivors express, connect, and move forward together.
“Music makes my heart sing and Silverlining gives me a place to explore and expand my music”
At Silverlining, we celebrate the profound impact that music can have on the recovery journey after brain injury. Through our online music therapy sessions, community music jams, and our annual Musical Extravaganza, we support Silverliners to express their experiences, emotions, and strengths through music - and research shows there are real therapeutic benefits to this creative work.
Music therapy is more than creative expression - it is a therapeutic intervention that can support physical, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of recovery. Research suggests that music therapy and music-based activities can:
- Enhance cognitive function and executive skills, such as attention, planning, and flexible thinking, particularly after traumatic brain injury. Studies have shown measurable improvements in cognitive processing following structured music therapy interventions.
- Promote neuroplasticity, helping the brain build new connections and strengthen existing pathways that support recovery.
- Support movement and motor coordination, especially when rhythm and beat are used to guide physical action.
- Improve emotional wellbeing, mood, and stress regulation - music engages emotional centres of the brain, reduces anxiety, and provides a deeply expressive outlet that can be especially meaningful for people adjusting to life after brain injury.
Whether it’s singing, playing instruments, composing songs, or sharing in group music jams, Silverliners use music to connect with themselves and each other in ways that traditional therapies may not always reach. Our annual Musical Extravaganza celebrates these achievements, giving musical voices a stage and reminding us all that creativity heals, connects, and strengthens.

Our community Music Jams bring us together to celebrate the role of music in wellbeing and building friendship by coming together through music!
