Inspired by a Silverliner, the Circle of Care Programme was created to support our community members during one of the most vulnerable times of their journey - when a Silverliner is admitted to hospital for treatment.

Rooted in our belief that Kindness changes Everything, the programme offers reassurance, connection, and advocacy at moments when they are needed most. The programme has three interconnected aims:

Kindness Kits: Reminding Silverliners they are not alone

When a Silverliner requires hospitalisation, they receive a Kindness Kit - a tangible expression of care from the Silverlining family. These carefully prepared packages are sent to offer comfort, encouragement, and a powerful reminder that a whole community is standing beside them. For both Silverliners and their families, the kits provide reassurance, compassion, and the knowledge that they are seen, valued, and supported.

Breaking boundaries through shared creativity

At the heart of the Circle of Care is the creativity of our Silverliners themselves. Through Silverlining’s creative groups, members contribute artwork, messages of hope, and positive affirmations that are included in the Kindness Kits. In doing so, Silverliners support one another in deeply meaningful ways, while also celebrating achievement and creativity after brain injury.

Our Silverlining Role Models are further recognised as Heroes to children supported by The Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT), through our annual bowling event, website features, and social media campaigns - challenging perceptions and highlighting possibility.

Giving a voice beyond hospital discharge

For many Silverliners, hospital discharge is only the beginning of a complex recovery journey. Following the delivery of a Kindness Kit, Silverlining offers an optional exit interview, providing individuals with the opportunity to share their hospital experience and ongoing needs. This insight helps us gather valuable, lived-experience knowledge about the long-term medical, emotional, and practical realities of brain injury. Through our Expert Patient Programme, this information is shared with professionals to improve understanding, inform practice, and support positive change for future survivors.

The Circle of Care Programme reflects everything Silverlining stands for - Kindness, Creativity, Opportunity, and Shared Hope - and demonstrates the power of community to comfort, uplift, and create lasting impact at the moments that matter most.

A recent Silverliner who received a Kindness Kit after returning from hospital shared:

“I had the best delivery ever… I’ve had a box of hugs from you all and it literally means everything. Just to know you are all there is so good. It’s brought tears to my eyes.”
