Art Programme
Creativity as a powerful part of healing after brain injury.
“Art gave me a small moment of calm when everything else felt too loud.”

At Silverlining, our Art Programme offers a range of opportunities for expression, connection, and wellbeing, including online and community art sessions, workshops, and public exhibitions.
Participants explore multiple art forms - from painting and collage to clay, print, photography, and mixed media - in supportive, accessible settings. The process of making art nurtures self-expression, improves confidence, builds community and offers a non-verbal pathway to reflect emotions and experience that can be difficult to put into words.
Research shows that engagement in creative arts can support recovery after brain injury by:
• Enhancing cognitive function, memory, and attention, through sustained engagement in creative tasks
• Improving mood and emotional wellbeing, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression
• Supporting identity, self-esteem, and a sense of agency, especially following loss of function or change in life direction
• Strengthening social connection and communication, through shared creative experiences
Silverlining’s Art Programme enables creativity as both personal expression and therapeutic engagement. We help Silverliners share their work with public audiences, breaking down stigma and shifting perceptions of disability and creativity.
We are proud to support and contribute to Letter in Mind, an annual art exhibit fundraiser for the National Brain Appeal at the National Hospital for Neurology. Each year, Silverliners are invited to participate and donate their creative work in support of this important cause. This collaboration not only raises essential funds for neurological care and research, it also gives participants a meaningful way to contribute, give purpose, and feel connected to something bigger than themselves.
“My pictures drawn for the ‘Letter in Mind’ art exhibition really makes me feel like I’m giving back.”
Our vision is to continue growing the Art Programme into all Silverlining regions - bringing creative opportunities to more people affected by brain injury, celebrating work through exhibitions, workshops, and community engagement events.
