“The Silverlining aims to help brain injury survivors rebuild their lives by helping others”

Our members are touched and inspired - you and your family could be too …

“Silver Lining gives me purpose in life - there are other people out there that are like me and I can help them as well as they help me!”

“Being a member of the Silver Lining has given me the opportunity to make friends and socialise with people who can relate to brain injury”

“Mixing with a number of significantly different people that have suffered a brain injury themselves in a variety of ways- allowing an invisible understanding of injury, which is misunderstood by so many.”

“My social life has resumed again, we’re all in the same sinking boat but now we have life jackets!”

“Being a member of Silver lining has enabled me to make a lot of new friends who are in the same boat that I am–brain injury survivors. I am able to get involved in a lot of exciting social activities with my many new friends of all ages and from all walks of life. I may not be the best bowler but they cheer me on for the effort I make not the result. My goal is to someday be able to go on one of the trips abroad with the group. To this end I do walking practice every day to try to make myself more mobile. I’ll get there in the end!”

“I have taken on the role of Card Sender for Silver lining. This involves me being responsible for sending cards on behalf of the charity to thank people for their assistance to the group, when there is a death of someone connected to the charity or for the happier occasions like birthdays. It is the first time since my accident that I have been able to use the skills I still have to do a “job”. It is nice to have a sense of purpose again.”

“Since my involvement with The Silver Lining in 2006 it has helped me to better understand the complexities of an acquired brain injury particularly in meeting other similarly injured patients. Whilst it is comforting to meet other brain injured patients, the experience also reminds me that my own cognitive weaknesses are not as subdued as I previously felt they were.”
