Jonathan’s Story
Jonathan’s story is just beginning. We met each other through Project Uganda and this is Jonathan’s early message to us.
“I had sustained a catastrophic brain injury”
Hi, My name is Jonathan. I’ve been self-employed since the age of 20. My trade was metal engineering, in ornamental iron work and so on. More recently I ran a small property maintenance business. So, what happened to me?
On my motorbike one day, an elderly man pulled out of a petrol station causing me to crash into him. I broke my back, my neck, my lungs collapsed and I had to be resuscitated at the roadside. I sustained damage to the frontal lobe of my brain and spent two weeks in intensive care at Glasgow hospital in a coma scale 3. Later, I had surgery to my back and learnt that I had sustained a catastrophic brain injury.
I have lost my business, my home and my wife, but life must go on!
So, why would I like to help in Uganda? Well I consider we don’t know how lucky we all are, even after what’s happened to me. My life is still a blessing compared with many others’.and since I have been given a new life I feel differently about things now. Life can be such a rat-race and we don’t always have time to think about others. I consider I have talents which I could apply in other parts of the world where people struggle just to survive. It would be nice to be able to give something back and make life for a little better for others.
